055 Sibon, Pasuruan, East Java – Community Eco-Library
Mr. Muhammad’s village is quite isolated and, worse, the only library in Sibon closed down due to lack of books and library manager.
The environmental problem here is deforestation; there are no more trees to retain water and the wells dried out, forcing them to fetch fresh water from another village. Stone mining is also a prominent issue there. Although this activity is legal, the trucks carrying stones cause pollution.
Therefore, Mr. Muhammad decided to take the future in his hands and pledge to promote environmental awareness. He opened the Eco-Library in the mosque and the kids stay reading our “green books” after the evening Qur’an lecture.
