085 / Bulaksari, Pekalongan, Central Java – Community Eco-Library
Mr. Ahmad Fauzan says: “The kids in our village sometimes do not know what to do after school and I also notice that their progress is going nowhere. I’m really worried about this situation.”
Therefore he got engaged in managing TPQ, a place where teenagers come to learn reading the Qur’an. Last year, they decided to start a small library, however the collection of books is still insufficient.
Mr. Fauzan identifies the environmental issues in their village as: overall lack of awareness about sustainable practices, unsustainable farming practices and lack of knowledge about waste management. People are still throwing garbage in the rivers.
He hopes that the Eco-Library would motivate and stimulate the young people to read, that the new books and new topics inspire them and their community to develop new skills, gain knowledge and to create different activities about the environment.
